Elliot - The Miniature Dachshund

It seems like forever since I have posted anything about the girls. So this post is dedicated to Elliot.

About two months ago we noticed she was limping on her front left leg. It took us a good month to realize that the limping was consistent. I know...that sounds horrible.....but it's true.

We took her to the vet and they weren't sure what was wrong. So before doing xrays, they put her on an anti-inflammatory medication for three weeks. Needless to say....that didn't do anything to help her, in fact, the limping became even more prevalent. Poor thing.
Last week, we went back to the vet and had xrays done. As I suspected, she has arthritis...at the age of 1.5 years old. Plus, the joint may not have developed correctly. The vet is sending the xray to a specialist to see if we need to be concerned about the joint development. This news just breaks my heart. The doctor put her on a stronger anti-inflammatory medication and we are also putting her on glucosamine.

This is an xray of the bad shoulder. It's really hard to see in this shot because the picture uploaded pretty small. But there is a thick white band along the top joint that is not in the good shoulder below. This white band is arthritis. Plus the bottom joint is not perfectly curved like the good one and this could be a cause for concern. It looks like there is a chip out of it and it is cracked. Of course, this is not the technical interpretation of the xray!

This is the good shoulder....including her microchip and collar!! Xrays are so neat!

Here is a shot of Sabrett being lovey with Elliot. It is usually the other way around!

This is such sad news, Melissa. I hope the glucosamine and the stronger anti-inflammatory give her(and you)some comfort. Keep us posted, won't you?
