Monarch Butterfly Cupcakes

In honor of Administrative Professional's Day/Week, I decided to make cupcakes. Not to mention I was dying to use the "Hello, Cupcake" book I got for Christmas.

This was the first time I used candy melts and it wasn't fun. What a mess!! It was not at all as easy as the book made it out to be. But, after some trial and error I got through it. Needless to say, my butterflies do not look like the book, but close enough.

The three sets of wings on the left and the top set on the right went right in the garbage. The candy sets up very fast so you have to work fast!!

Success!

The finished cupcakes turned out super cute and I'm sure they will be a hit tomorrow at work.

Hmmm....what cupcakes will I try next from my new favorite book????

I love those monarch wings! I went to a cupcake class taught by Karen....it was so fun! Do you know there is a Hello Cupcake! blog?!?! :)

Candy melts are a lot different to work with than royal icing, aren't they?

Oh my goodness....the candy is nothing like royal icing! It was a disaster. Any advice/tips?

The cupcakes were even cuter in person! And you were right, the dark chocolate did taste minty. Good work as always :)
