Just for fun

This weekend, I spend quite a bit of time in the kitchen making cookies just for fun and creating some new designs. It seems like I make the same cookies over and over again, so it was refreshing to challenge myself with something new. I was able to practice writing which is by far my weakest decorating skill and circles.

Hands down, these are my favorite cookies. I have had these cutters for a good year and just now playing with them. Seriously....by far my cutest creation. I have a maraca cutter, which I should have used as well. I need to throw a Mexican Fiesta so I can make these cookies again!!!

I don't know what I love more...the chili or the cactus?!?! I used two different colors of green sparkles for the cactus. I am loving this technique!
In honor of our monthly game nights with E&E I came up with this collection. Again, I have had these cutters forever!!

I added some poker chips to make a Poker Night collection:

A coworker bought this tie cutter for me so I thought it would be fun for a Father's Day collection. I have more ideas for a Father's Day collection using tools, but I will play with that idea next time I have free time.

I landed a huge order for Easter - 200 crosses, so I will not be able to take on any additional orders for Easter...but I did want to play with the new cutters I recently bought. I'm not loving this. I think I will practice this again next year. I have some more Easter shapes cut out that I need to finish. I am struggling with decorating the face of a bunny.

At work our division moved buildings which was an extreme undertaking. My boss, the Directors and I worked with architects for months on the design of our new space. I was charged with coordinating the move for approximately 80 employees and although extremely fun, it was a lot of work. I relied on quite a bit of people to make the move successful. So, I decided while spending so much time in the kitchen, I would make some Thank You cookies.
Now, just about all of the people I worked with were guys. So, I couldn't make my normal daisy cookies as a thank you. So what do you make for guys??????? Well, I saw these smiley face cookies on A Dozen Eggs blog and knew these would be perfect for guys. Laura, thank you for the idea and inspiration! (Now, go on over to her website and order your own smiley faces!!!!)

I have come to the conclusion that a sprinkled border really completes a cookie!
I couldn't help but smile while I made these cookies!
Hopefully the guys enjoy the cookies!!

I love the rim on your margarita cookies! I'm going to have to change mine up! ;) The ties are super cute, too!

Your COOKIES keep getting better (if that is possible!), Melissa! I love ALL of your new designs, but I'm a fan of that hot chili pepper... it's not that I'm mexican (I'm not a hot food fan), but the color is perfect and looks sooo good :)

Great job on the smiley faces.
Circles are most definitely a tough shape. I can't ever let anyone else do the outline. So every round or oval cookie has been outlined by me and me alone!!
I use very stiff icing and hold the tip about a half inch over the cookie.
love the Easter chicks and the fiesta cookies.
Have you thought about Mother's Day yet??

I love the fiesta collection! It includes a margarita that I can actually have!
