Jeff is traveling this week, which has left me extremely bored....so I tried to make chocolate sugar cookies. Of course I didn't have a recipe to follow and totally made it up. The consistency of the dough changed a little bit by adding the melted chocolate. Thankfully I have plenty of taste testers at work because I can't tell if the recipe is chocolaty enough or too cakey.
For Christmas, my good friend Julie had a custom UNF Osprey cutter made for me. What an awesome friend!!!! I used this cutter with the chocolate dough.

I like the brown "background" the chocolate COOKIE gives to the blue icing... I love Cookie Craft's chocolate recipe, do you have the book?... also I have a really good chocolate cookie recipe I can share... just email me if you want either one... have a nice day, Melissa!
We use our regular sugar cookie recipe but substitute 9c of cocoa powder for 9c of flour.
Our recipe is a base of 6# of butter so it's a big batch. You could do the same if you really like your vanilla sugar cookie recipe, you just need to experiment and figure out how much cocoa you want to add. You can also add a bit of dissolved instant espresso powder to give it a deeper chocolate taste.
Let me know if you want any help with the cocoa amount.
Pretty color!
